At Good Choice Dental, we offer our patients whiter teeth in as little as 30-minutes using the pola teeth whitening kit. Used around the world, pola’s professional teeth whitening formulation gets to work straight away, and is 33% faster than other professional whitening products on the market. Let’s look at how it works.

How Does pola Teeth Whitening Work?

Essentially, patients have an option between three different types of whitening:

  • Over-the-counter
  • Take-home whitening treatments from your dentist
  • Professional treatments administered by your dentist

Once pola’s bleaching solution has been applied to the surface of your teeth it is broken down into its oxygen and water ions. This is because the discolouration that takes place happens in the dentin of your teeth – which is below your enamel.

Once the oxygen ions have penetrated the enamel of your teeth they destroy the molecules responsible for the staining by breaking them down. What is left of the stained molecules will be removed by the saliva in your mouth.

How White Will Your Teeth Go?

The brightness of your whitening results will depend on the amount of oxygen ions present, and the length of time they are in contact with your teeth.

Pola whitening kits can whiten your teeth by up to six shades lighter than their original colour. Together with your dentist, you will decide what shade is achievable in the time frame you have available. It is important that you do not exceed the duration recommended by pola, if you do opt for a take-home kit. Leaving the bleaching agent on your teeth for longer than recommended can cause short term sensitivity and discomfort, and long term damage to your tooth enamel.

Should You Choose In-Office Or Take-Home Whitening?

Pola offers a range of whitening products, in a variety of different strengths. They all contain hydrogen peroxide (or carbamide peroxide which breaks down into hydrogen peroxide), but in different amounts.

Take-home teeth whitening kits by Pola range from 10% carbamide peroxide to 25% hydrogen peroxide. While over-the-counter products are not allowed to contain more than 6%, most of them average about 3%.

Whitening At Home With poladay

If you have just half an hour every day, the poladay kit can safely whiten your teeth, offering protection against enamel damage and tooth sensitivity. Available in four strengths, ranging from 3% to 9.5%, poladay is administered by dispensing bleaching agent into a tray that is worn for 30 minutes. Once your treatment time is over you will rinse your mouth and continue with your day as per usual.

Polanight

Polanight makes use of carbamide peroxide in four different strengths, in order to whiten your smile while you sleep.

Poladay and polanight may take a few days of treatment before you start to notice results. If you need to whiten your teeth for an event or special occasion, we recommend that you make use of our professional teeth whitening service to brighten your smile in time.

Professional teeth whitening with pola

Pola’s (PDT) or Desensitising Technology has been formulated to protect your dental nerves and nerve endings to minimise any burn, discomfort or irritation during your whitening treatment. Your dentist will protect your soft tissues with a barrier before applying a thin layer of the whitening gel to the surface of your teeth.

Unlike other whitening treatments on the market pola does not require a blue light or laser activation and starts working as soon as the gel comes into contact with the surface of your teeth.

How Long Do Whitening Results Last?

How long your newly whitened smile will last will depend on different variables, ranging from your genetics to your lifestyle. If you do continue to consume dark beverages or smoke, your results may not last as long.

Your friendly Good Choice dentist will discuss how long you can expect your results to last and may make a recommendation for top up sessions to keep your teeth looking white. Regular dental check ups and professional cleaning is recommended to keep your teeth free of plaque and tartar, which can cause your teeth to look discoloured.

Still have questions about a pola teeth whitening kit or how you can bleach your teeth safely at home? Please remember you do need to have a dental check up and clean prior – we would love to assist you in achieving a brighter, whiter smile with professional teeth whitening.
